Tra i petri
In Ajaccio, the Citadelle Miollis, held by the army for nearly five centuries, is now opening up to the city. For Hè Viva 2023, the artist Gilles Brusset designed “Tra i petri”, an in-situ sculpture that makes the stones of the rampart appear to float.
Mirror-polished stainless steel modules, each cut to the exact shape of the original joints, are set between the pink granite stones around the pedestrian entrance and on the façade facing the sea. From afar the stones seem suspended in light; up close, the sky and the blue of the Mediterranean seem to pass through the wall.
Marc Blume, sculptor, carried out the work alongside the artist: every piece is cut to follow the joints of the wall, then fitted onto the monument.
