The Picturesque
landscape sculpture // Meyrin (1217, Switzerland)
For “L’été au jardin” 2021, the City of Meyrin gave Gilles Brusset carte blanche at the Alpine Botanical Garden, a “piece of mountain” created in the early 20th century and now surrounded by the city. Under the title “Le pittoresque, l’abscisse et l’ordonnée”, the artist brings the vertical and horizontal lines of the city into the garden.
Set at the garden’s thresholds, the sculptures combine timber rafters and steel clad in mirrors. Visitors step in as into a maze of reflections: the landscape multiplies and turns into an image, until reflection and reality can no longer be told apart.
UOTNI built the whole installation, from technical development to installation.
