Opus incertum aurichalcum

landscape sculpture // Parc des Tanneurs, Rennes (35000)

Design and fabrication of an artwork in memory of the Rennes mosaicist Isidoro Odorico, born of the City of Rennes’ participatory budget project “Parc en mosaïque”. Gilles Brusset’s work brings together three sculptures in brass and black UHPC: a stele at the entrance of the Parc des Tanneurs, a wall-stage near the playground and an emblematic table at the centre.

Inspired by an Odorico mosaic in Paimpol, it enlarges the grouting pattern into a monumental geometric composition, following the opus incertum technique: irregular shapes held together by strict graphic rigour. The central table recalls the ancient domus uncovered by nearby archaeological excavations; mosaics made in participatory workshops are set into two of the sculptures.

Together with SOLIDSTUDIO, UOTNI handled the technical design and fabrication, including the cutting and assembly of the brass sheet elements.
